ROBB JOHNSON

Robb's 'career' began in the late seventies, as a part of the much-loved "Ministry Of Humour". He has since played as a duo with Pip Collings, solo, and occasionally with a full electric band. His songs have been covered by the likes of Roy Bailey and Maggie Holland, and many of them have become the staple of floor singers around the country, mixing as they tend to do the contemporary and the timeless. He is a prolific writer, and is easily capable of putting out two full CDs worth of material every year (and has done many times). His most recent work, like virtually everything he's ever done, has appeared on his own Irregular Records label, and they all contain English songwriting of the highest quality.

Unfortunately Robb has suffered through his entirely unjustified reputation as a dour protest singer, but just one listen the likes of 'Sunday Morning, St Denis' or 'Evergreen' confirms that here is a man who can see beauty in a muddy pool and whose passion is not at all confined to worthy causes. When a history of great British songwriters of the 20th century comes to be written, Robb's name will be high on the list. Go and catch him live, and choose from the huge assortment of LPs, EPs, 12" singles and CDs he carries with him. You won't be disappointed.
